What's in it for me?

Participating in this programme will give you access to...

  • Recognised Qualification

How will I learn?

This comprehensive programme is divided into three modules, each centred around a specific theme and teaching a wide range of techniques.

Each module includes 10 learning units, where you'll find lessons focused on the techniques being taught. All materials are delivered through video tutorials and downloadable resources. Plus, each module features bonus content to further enhance your skills.  You’ll access everything via Thinkific, our easy-to-use learning platform. It guides you step-by-step through the course, lets you download notes, and revisit lessons as often as you like.

Learning units are released weekly to avoid overwhelm and to make sure we can fully support you as you learn. There's no need to be online at a set time — just dip in and out when it suits you, and progress at your own pace.

You’ll also get lifetime access with your enrolment, so you can repeat the course as many times as you like and benefit from all future updates — with no extra fees.

Each student also has access to a private Facebook group, just for enrolled students. Inside, you can ask questions directly to your tutor, connect with fellow learners, and build supportive friendships. We also host live demonstrations in the group, perfect for covering any tricky techniques — and the replays are always available to watch again anytime.

Finally, we run regular Zoom clinics and informal meetups where you can ask questions, share experiences, and stay connected. While these are held at set times, we always record them and upload the replays to the Facebook group so you won’t miss out if you can’t join live.

Such a great learning experience for beginners and people who have been self taught like myself. I learned easier, better ways to accomplish things I had been doing. I also learned new things that would have taken me years to learn. You move along at your own pace and have such amazing support and helpful teachers.

As a fine art practitioner, I have studied a variety of online courses covering Jewellrey design, sculptural work and drawing online before and during the pandemic constantly developing my design practice. This PMC course held by Julie Holt and Helen Drye is by far one of the best in my opinion that I have studied on. It is thoughtfully executed to facilitate all levels of skills in silver clay work. Interesting well bvalanced and educational, keeping your creative execution of each step flowing leaving you with a great collection of work.

The design of this course allows you to work either at the structured pace of the course or at your as life dictates. The tutorials are very well structured, clear and easy to follow. The support and expertise you receive from Julie and Helen is invaluable, they are both patient and encouraging. The weekly zoom catch ups facilitate discussion around concerns, learning from each other and alternative approach. The students also so supportive on this and the closed Facebook group it keeps your energy high at times when life may challenge this.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I’m paying in instalments – how will that work?

When you enrol, you will make your first instalment plan payment, and then be invoiced for the same amount each month for the term of the instalment plan you chose

  • What if I change my mind?

You can book you place now, and have a 14 day ‘cooling off’ period during which you can cancel your enrolment, no questions asked. After this and once you have started the course, regretfully we would not be able to refund any fees paid. We are very flexible and absolutely understand that sometimes life gets in the way, so are happy for you to defer the course until you are ready to take it in this instance.

  • I need lots of time to order materials at the moment – how will that work?

Before each module starts we will give you a tool and materials list so that you can order supplies as soon as possible. If there are specific suppliers, we will direct you to them.

  • What metal clay will I work with on the course?

You are free to work with the metal clay brand of your choice! All we ask is that you work with a Fine Silver (999) clay that it has a firing range of 599°C/1110°F to 900°C/1652°F as some projects need a lower firing temperature to protect the design. That said, the majority of course projects fire at 800°C/1472°F and up, so you can mix and match your clay brands, according to the project needs.

  • What qualification do you actually get?

Our certification programme is assessed by qualified instructors and awarded by Learn Silver Clay Online. Like all recognised metal clay certifications, it does not carry formal academic status (such as a degree), but is highly respected within the industry for the depth of training it provides. Originally developed in the early 2000s by the inventors of metal clay, our programme has been updated many times since to reflect advances in the medium. It teaches a broad range of techniques that give you a strong foundation in both creative and practical skills. Unlike some programmes tied to a single brand, ours is completely brand-neutral. This allows you to explore the strengths of different clays and gain a deeper understanding of the medium—ideal whether you’re creating for yourself, selling your work, or planning to teach. This certification is recognised by the Assay Office, making you eligible for free hallmarking registration, and it meets the student discount criteria at Cookson Gold. Choosing a certification can feel overwhelming. We recommend focusing on what you’ll learn. Our programme offers comprehensive, flexible training designed to support your growth as a confident metal clay artist.

  • How much time will we need to complete the course?

You can expect to spend on average 3-4 hours per week. Each module takes 18 hours in class, however at home we have more time available and therefore students tend to enjoy the luxury of more time and working at their own pace as they complete the lessons and projects . It takes approximately 3 months to work through each module online, and there is also some flexibility built in for catch-up time too if needed. We would recommend you aim to complete 2 projects per month, but this will vary depending on your time.

  • Do I need a kiln to do this course?

About 2/3rds of the learning projects need to be kiln fired so you will either need a kiln yourself, or access to a kiln. As part of the course, for UK students we offer 2 kiln firings per student, per module - all you need to do is send your pieces to us (we'll advise you how to package them safety) and cover the postage costs. If you're not in the UK, just let us know as we will put you in touch with an in-country firing service.

  • I’m not in the UK, can I still enrol and what will it cost?

Absolutely, yes! Our students come from around the world and the course structure means you don't have to be available at a certain time in order to participate fully. When you enrol, your card provider will apply their exchange rate , and any fees that are applicable, so you'll need to check with them to figure out the exact cost in your local currency.

  • Is there a specific time classes are held? Or can watch I them anytime and repeat if needed?

The only thing that is held at a specific time are our weekly 'coffee breaks'. These are live Zoom meetings held at a time-zone friendly time each week to make it easy for you to join. They are also recorded so you can watch them on replay if not able to attend the live session. The actual course content is released weekly and once released you can return to any of the tutorials as you’ll have lifetime access.

  • How much experience do I need to do this course?

You need to have completed a 1-day introductory course or our Metal Clay Beginners Bootcamp before you start as this isn't an absolute beginner's course. It's a course for those who have done some metal clay and now want more … more skills, more opportunities to experiment, and best of all more PLAY!! Get in touch if you want to chat about whether this course is right for you

  • Are the skills I learn transferable to any metal clay?

Yes! You will learn tried and tested techniques that work with all metal clays. The main thing that changes between formulas is the firing and shrinkage rates and we guide and support you with this.

  • What if I need extra one to one support?

You get loads of instructor support when on the programme, however if you feel you need extra one-to-one support at any time, you can purchase sessions just for you to go through lessons, trouble shoot, have demonstrations, and ask questions. These are an additional cost of £25 per 30-minute session. To be honest, no-one has needed it yet, but it's always nice to have the option if you would prefer it

  • How do you assess my work?

We assess your work as you go and also on completion, using photos you submit. The 'as you go' assessments are all about supporting you and keeping you on track, much as we would do in the classroom. This way, by the time you complete the finished project, all should be well with no surprises! Any time you are not sure of anything, just ask, and as you're part of a great learning community, everyone supports and helps each other

  • How will I get my certificate?

You will be able to download your certificate on successful completion of each module
